BEMERTON Heath Harlequins were pegged back by a reformed Totton and Eling after breezing into a two-nil lead.

Jack Slade’s brace inside 30 minutes put the visiting side on course for three points but the bottom side came back with a spring in their step.

Totton, who are still chasing their first league win, rallied hard to pull one back from returning talisman Steve Marwood, making the most of Jack Eves’ loss of possession.

And the equaliser arrived on the stroke of half-time when a harmless-looking cross from the left was volleyed into the net by Dan Metcalfe which flew past his own keeper Max Frampton.

The second half was much better from the visitors with Slade, Graham Mankin, Scott Joyce and Eves all forcing the home keeper into stunning saves.

In-form Slade was unfortunate not to win it for Harlequins when his fine effort shook the woodwork, as the game ended 2-2.

Manager Ian Chalk said: “We were unfortunate to come up against a new Totton side with five players making their debut. Compared to the side we played in the FA Cup earlier in the season this team have real promise.”

Bemerton have a rematch with Moneyfields on Saturday, which is the league cup, before hosting Andover Town in the league on Tuesday night.
