PAUL Henderson saddled his eighth winner of the National Hunt racing season at Plumpton on Monday with a horse which cost nothing and was ridden by the “wrong” jockey for owners who no longer exist.

The Whitsbury trainer explained the strange tale about Alright Benny’s victory in the 2m4f handicap chase on the Sussex course.

“Alright Benny was gifted to me by my Irish agent Aidan Kennedy - he wanted to point-to-point the horse but things had not worked out - Louis Muspratt was jocked up to ride but injured his knee running last week and had to be replaced,” Henderson said.

“As for the owners, that was the Paul Henderson Racing Club - but that was disbanded on October 1 even though the horse still ran in the club colours.”

The 11-year-old former Irish point-to-pointer, having his third outing on these shores for Henderson, landed the sixrunner affair by three lengths under Tom O'Brien after disputing the lead throughout with favourite The Omen who finished second.

Alright Benny had not won over National Hunt racing fences in 15 previous attempts - 13 of them in Ireland - though he had taken two point-to-points, the second of those being back in March 2012.
