AMESBURY Town and Laverstock & Ford are in the quarter-final draw of the Wiltshire Senior Cup.

The two Wessex Division One teams advanced in the county competition following second-round home wins.

The Blues will travel to Warminster Town while Laverstock & Ford have a third home draw, this time against Corsham Town.

The Blues overcame the dismissal of captain Ben Pryce, who picked up two yellow cards, to edge the derby with Shrewton United 3-2 at Bonnymead Park.

Danny Finnigan, Nic Turpin and Sam Matthews gave the hosts a three-nil lead to preserve in the second half.

Shrews, from Wiltshire Premier League, profited from their numerical advantage and clawed two goals back from in-form Craig Lewis and George Plank.

Dean Foot netted a late equaliser but it was disallowed for offside.

Triumphant Blues manager Gareth Horner said to the Journal: “We expected nothing less of Shrewton and knew that we had to perform to progress to the next round.”

“In fairness, we dominated possession for the first halfan- hour and looked comfortable.

What looked a questionable sending off then essentially ruined our game plan completely.

“We still managed to knock the ball around at times and to be fair to the back four they dealt with the direct approach that came their way in the second half.

“All that matters is that we are through and now face Warminster away in the quarter finals.”

Ollie Batchelor and Tom Mundy scored second half goals as Lavvy strolled past Marlborough Town at the Dell.

The cup has proved to be a good distraction for Robbie Lakeman’s side whose poor league form, coupled with having one defender to choose from on Saturday, didn’t affect them.

“It was good to see us dominate a game so well and keeping a clean sheet was a bonus, especially as we only had one available defender for the game,” said Lakeman.

“Marlborough were hard to break down so we had to be patient and not try to force things.”

Meanwhile, hapless Downton exited the competition as they were hammered 5-0 at home to Hellenic Premier Division opposition Highworth Town FC. The date for the quarter-final ties has yet to be confirmed.
