PREDATORS made the news over the last few days with both perch and pike being caught by anglers.

But, another fish again in the news is Witherington Farm Fishery's biggest common carp, which has been caught for a second time in a week.

Its latest captor was Leigh Coker, who banked the 31lb 1oz fish from Barnmoor Lake exactly a week after Laurence Wright caught it – at the same weight.

Anglers fishing the London AA stretch of the Avon at Britford have been finding perch in a feeding mood. Mark Walsh and Mark Cannings had the striped predators in their catches with Walsh landing several during two visits to the river, with the best at 2lb 4oz. Cannings had them to 1lb 10oz, plus a good bag of dace.

Further downstream, the Lifelands stretch of the Avon near Ringwood is producing pike to 18lb as well as quality grayling, while lakes in the area are recording pike to 21lb.

Salisbury Angling Club's match anglers found the Avon at Stratford in quite good form for their club match and although the wind was cold, it remained dry and catches were reasonable. Paul Colbeck won the competition with 12lb 12oz from a peg on the Horses Field, Chris Opey was second and joint third were Gary Wright and John Nottall.

At the half-way stage of the annual Teams of Four competition, the two Reid's Tackle teams are cementing their position at the top of the table. The league, with four matches to go, has Reid's Tackle and Reid's Tackle B both on 122 points with Dandy's K2 their nearest challenger on 102 points.

As reported last week, Salisbury Angling Club has a new barbel record following the capture of a 14lb 12oz specimen from the club's stretch of the Avon at Burgate, near Fordingbridge.

Colin Marshall is pictured with his prize catch, which beats the previous record of 11lb 14oz that had been in existence since 1980.
