THERE were no indications of Salisbury RFC’s successful cup heroes suffering from a hangover as they swept aside a lowly Bradford on Avon to continue their hunt for promotion.

A week on from their shock Dorset and Wilts Senior Cup win, came an entirely different proposition – but the Castle Road stuck to the task in hand, winning 57 points to five in Southern Counties South.

Full of confidence, the hosts had their visitors, who have won just once this season, quivering inside five minutes when the first try was converted.

Gareth Blackborrow forced over the line and Tom Pottage made an excellent conversion.

Pottage, last weekend’s talisman, scored a try which he converted before Andy Herriot got another and suddenly the hosts were 19-0 ahead.

And by half time Salisbury were 31-0 ahead thanks to Jon Goldsmith and Tom Ranaboldo scoring the tries, with Pottage’s reliable boot converting the latter.

Following the restart, Salisbury put their foot on the gas and stretched their lead by another seven points, Goldsmith going over and Pottage adding the extras.

And with the game petering out, Dom Porter demonstrated his versatility with some slick football skills as he went over the line.

And straight after the restart, Dave Tonge, well inside his own half, intercepted before weaving through a clan of players to score, Pottage converting again.

The points were secured at 50-0 but Pottage’s infectious energy resulted in a last try and conversion of the afternoon before their clean sheet was ruled out when Bradford scored a try.

Fourth-placed Salisbury are away at Dorchester on Saturday.
