DEFENDER Graham Mankin and striker Jack Slade fired Bemerton Heath Harlequins to a well-deserved victory over relegation- bound Verwood Town in Wessex Premier.
The two strikes ended a sticky patch of no league win in four matches for Harlequins at Potterne Park.
Mankin put Harlequins’ noses in front after staying forward from a corner and pouncing when Scott Joyce miscontrolled in the area and he finished with aplomb.
Max Frampton remained a spectator in the visitors’ goal as they pressed for a second, which came through skipper Jack Slade who was quickest to react to a poor clearance from Verwood’s keeper.
Manager Ian Chalk was full of praise for his charges for winning away 2-0 on Saturday.
He said: “After last week’s disappointment, it was important we bounced back and we certainly did that.
“We have tried to change our approach and style this season and it’s taking time but slowly we are getting there. And Saturday our pressing game worked beautifully; I can’t remember Verwood being in our half.
“Jack deserved his goal and the introduction of Jack Eves at half time worked well also. His passing was first class and a joy to watch at times.
“The whole team contributed to a fully deserved victory and if we continue to all work together for 90 minutes then we can win most games.”
