MACHO heavyweight boxing champion David Haye was in Salisbury last week visiting a new fitness facility in Harnham.

The 34-year-old, who has captured world titles in cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions, spent some time on Friday looking round Stonehenge CrossFit on Harnham Trading Estate.

The new gym is co-owned and run by Haye’s friends Tris Dixon and Scott Healey.

“The gym looks great, it’s a world class facility,” said Haye, who has his own gym in Vauxhall, London.

“I’ve known Tris for the best part of 10 years and it’s great to see him doing well and his business thriving after just a couple of weeks.”

Dixon said seeing Haye, who has fought the likes of Russian giant Nikolai Valuev and reigning champion Wladimir Klitschko as well as appearing on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, means a lot to his newlyopened gym.

“We’ve been speaking about him visiting since Christmas and it means a great deal to a new business like us if someone like David goes out of his way to support us,” he said. “It will be even better the next time he visits because he will be bringing his training gear for a workout.”

The gym also boasts a plentiful supply of boxing equipment, which professional trainer Dixon uses to teach people to box. He hopes Haye is the first of several big names to drop in.
