HOLDERS The Wanderers pegged back a two-goal deficit to continue their quest of reclaiming the Charity A Cup.

Liam McConnell’s side, who have won the trophy for the past two seasons, completed a comeback to advance to the semi final following a 5-2 quarter final win over West Harnham.

But the start was far from ideal after facing a tough task after the opening quarter-of-anhour.

Mike Brownless notched up the opener before a second was grabbed to double their cushion inside 20 minutes.

The shaky start seemed to galvanize the hosts and within five minutes of conceding the second goal, Andy Cheverall met Adam Jones’, pictured, corner to halve the deficit.

The equaliser landed soon after when Steph Tinkler’s fireball free-kick, 25-yards out, nestled into the net.

Skipper Andrew Duffy then put Wanderers in front for the first time before the half-hour mark and Jones headed home a fourth as Wanderers had turned it around 4-2 by half time arrived.

The second half saw many chances go begging, but Tim Fewins completed an impressive comeback for Wanderers ten minutes remaining to force an away tie at South Newton on March 14, a replay of the cup final of 2013.

Wanderers manager McConnell said: “That was an important result for us.”

“A local derby against some former players, we had everything to lose. The lads were in no mood to be bullied and it was impressive to see them stand up to the test Harnham threw at us. They have some good players and are a physical threat but to be in a semi final is really pleasing for us. We roll on!”

The winners of South Newton and The Wanderers will meet Stockton & Codford Reserves, 3-1 winners over Cedars FC, in the final.
