DRAW specialists Downton FC secured a fifth 1-1 stalemate in seven matches thanks to Declan McGregor’s leveller.

The Robins fought back on Saturday against promotiontracking New Milton Town, incidentally registering their seventh draw of the season, more than any other team in Wessex Division One.

They were left backpedalling at Wick Lane after a mistimed tackle from Paul Gulliver allowed the lively Kaba Jack to score the opener.

Charlie Aldridge kept the visitors at bay in the second half with a string of top saves.

This took the pressure off his side and allowed them to gain momentum going forward as Irishman McGregor kept the new Milton back four alert.

And from a set-piece, Downton mustered a leveller.

Mark Waters nodded on a corner to McGregor who was on hand to head into the roof of the net.

This set Downton onto the front-foot, with the evergreen Mark Savage pulling the strings and he created two good opportunities for James Sainsbury and Ross Bentnall – but the deadlock wasn’t broken again.

Another home point against a side pushing for promotion leaves manager Colin Hopkins with “plenty of positives” to work with ahead of their game with fellow title merchants Tadley Calleva on Saturday (3pm).

Downton stay in 12th place.
