A STRIKE four minutes from time saw South Newton Under-18s dodge defeat as they grabbed a point at home to Whitchurch in a zigzag 2-2 stalemate.

Reece Boase gave the hosts the lead with a composed finish before the visitors restored parity with a clean finish.

After the interval, Whitchurch looked like they had carved out the winner when their left winger outpaced the home defence and slotted past the keeper.

But Newton’s fighting spirit showed and they managed to salvage a point in the dying minutes.

Callum Seaman sneaked in at the far post to plant home Rory Wilson’s free kick to share the spoils.
