CITY of Salisbury road runners are looking to consolidate the improvement they made to their league standings at the 10-mile race they hosted last weekend.

As reigning league champions, Salisbury A team have found it difficult this season to find the form they have enjoyed for the past two years.

But with the benefit of some better performances on their home course, the quartet have moved up to seventh spot and are looking to bolster that on the fast, flat roads at the Eastleigh 10k on Sunday.

The ladies’ A team have also now moved up to seventh place in their table, a good performance given the number of their best runners who have been sidelined by injury.

Salisbury B teams still have much work to do: The men’s team are at the bottom of the table and the ladies stand tenth.

Rithy Hy proved his continuing good form by taking eighth place in the newly-launched Larmer Tree 20- mile trail race over the hills around Tollard Royal with a time of 2hours 28min.

Liz Roberts clocked a creditable 4.40 in the marathon based on the same location, and Andy Robbins was timed at 2.21 for the half marathon.

Only two Salisbury runners attended the hilly Devizes 10k, John Ruskin was second in his age group with 46.39 and Ali Theobald third in hers with 56.59.
