TWO big carp and the appearance of skimmers and roach have been reported from lakes in the region as still waters move into spring fishing.

The cold, easterly wind and overnight frosts, have kept fish - ing on the slow side, but on those days when the sun shone and the wind died back, sport was good.

The two heavyweight carp came out of Rockford Lake, near Ring - wood, one weighing a massive 49lb and the other at 32lb. Nearby Hucklesbrook Lake is producing quality tench to 6lb 8oz while the cool weather is keeping perch on the feed and stripeys to 3lb have been caught from Wedgehill Lake, near Verwood.

In the Salisbury area, With - erington Farm Fishery reports an increase in activity of skim - mers and larger bream on most of their lakes as well as a general improvement in sport. A mid- week open match on Sellwood and Cottage lakes saw reasonable weights. Ian Heyden won on Sell - wood with 63lb and Gary Ether - idge was runner-up with 50lb 4oz.

Dave Moody won the silver fish award with 19lb 9oz. On Cottage Lake, winner was John Dewbury with 53lb 7oz and Mike Aldis sec - ond with 44lb 3oz. Silver fish win - ner was Jonny Gray with 9lb 9oz.

On Saturday there was a father and son battle in a match on Sell - wood and dad, Hayden Mayers came out on top - just - with 46lb 4oz. Son, Darren, was close be - hind with 44lb 3oz. There was a joint third place for Martin Rog - ers and Paul Hough each with 28lb 7oz.
