THE sought-after treble is on the cards for Alderbury after inflicting heartache on Stockton and Codford with a second piece of silverware in a six-day turnaround.

After ripping apart Stockton’s hopes in the Premier Cup on Wednesday night by four goals to one, they replicated the success in the Morrison Cup, but this time via a penalty shootout 4-3 win.

The Junction Road outfit, leading the way at the Salisbury and District Premier summit, came from behind in the Easter Monday showdown at Western Way.

Twelve minutes into the second half, Alderbury’s gloveman fouled a Stockton player just outside the box and was dismissed. The resulting free-kick was skied over the crossbar.

With the deadlock not being broken in full time nor extra time at 1-1, penalties beckoned.

After four penalties a piece, the score was 3-3. Alderbury’s stand-in keeper saved Stockton’s fifth and the ten-man side’s penalty taker duly dispatched his to ensure the cup went back with them along the A36. Stockton have another throw at the dice in their third cup final on Saturday.

It will be mission accomplished for Alderbury if they can go on to secure the league title.

But refusing to give up the title chase is South Newton and Wishford.

Billy Poole’s 65th minute headed goal propelled his side to second as they stepped to within five points of the leaders with three games to go.

South Newton’s player/manager Keith Darling said: “I’m delighted with our hard-fought win.

“First half we were not at the races but turned it round in the second half.

“The boys got the ball down and played like I asked them to and got the reward all their hard work deserved.

“However, we must retain this level of commitment for the rest of the season to finish as high in the league as we can.”

Elsewhere in the league on Easter Saturday, The Wanderers smashed Amesbury Kings Arms 4-1 and Stockton beat Cedars 5-1.
