CARP enthusiast Nigel Tupper had an amazing few hours fishing when he visited Witherington Farm Fishery one afternoon last week.

He fished Barnmoor Lake but didn’t get any bites until 5.30pm or so when most anglers were heading home for tea. He then started catching and by dusk he had banked 12 double-figure carp, five of them over 20lb and the heaviest at 27lb 10oz.

For the fifth year in succession team Reid’s Tackle have been crowned Teams of Four champions following Saturday’s final round of the eight-match competition, fished at Witherington Farm.

They accumulated a total of 234 points over the eight matches, a very good average, and won the competition by eight points from runners-up Reid’s Tackle B. Third spot went to Eastleigh Blue were third on 212 points.

The final match saw victory for Barney’s Blacks but the 30-point victory did not give them enough points to reach the top three places.

Individually, John Dewbury was the winner on Saturday with a creditable 109lb from the Inner Snake lake. Second place went to Graham Tappenden with 81lb 12oz from Cottage Lake, and in third place was Brett Cooper who caught 80lb 14oz from the Inner Snake lake.

Pleasure anglers across the region are finding sport a little sporadic as some species are in the throes of spawning. In the Ringwood area anglers seeking tench have struggled on some lakes although carp are still feeding well. Roach and skimmers are also beginning to spawn and fishery owners are reporting an absence of those two species from some lakes.

At Waldens Farm Fishery, West Grimstead, all five lakes are fishing quite well with Bishops and Abbots lakes continuing to provide sport with carp - one or two well into double figures - and at this fishery, where the lake water is spring-fed and a little colder than many others, bream and roach are still being caught.

The Match Lake is fishing well for carp, tench, roach and skimmers and Monks Lake continues to give good all-round sport.
