WILTSHIRE finished their group matches in the Unicorns Knock Out Trophy on Sunday with an excellent win over Devon, last year’s winners, at Warminster by 46 runs.

This means that three teams in the group – Cornwall, Wales and Wiltshire – all have five points.

With the top two going into the quarter-finals, it was decided on net run rate and, with Wiltshire having the lowest rate, they were the unfortunate team to miss out on advancing.

Wiltshire slumped to 35 for five wickets after 16 overs as they struggled against Tom Allin (3 for 23), Trevor Anning (1 for 31) and Ben Green (3 for 41).

They then recovered through a superb century (100) from Ed Young and in partnerships of 57 for the sixth wicket with Michael Bates (36), 61 for the seventh wicket with Ashur Morrison (19) and for the eighth wicket, and 70 with Jake Roberts (33) took the score to 233 for nine wickets off their 50 overs. Devon were all out for 187 off 41 overs.

Wiltshire’s next match is in the inaugural Unicorns 20/20 competition at Exmouth on Sunday, May 31 against Devon (10am).
