THE prospects of South Wilts seconds clinching an outright Southern Electric Premier Division 3 promotion place is in their own hands.
They enter the five-match home straight against St Cross Symondians II at the Green Jackets Ground on Saturday (1pm), nine points adrift of second-placed Trojans and 21 shy of table-toppers Waterlooville.
But Tom Pearce’s side still have both the top two to play, starting at Trojans a week Saturday.
South Wilts gave their promotion hopes a significant boost with a 107-run win over visiting Havant II at Bemerton.
They were on top throughout the game, with William Wade (63) and Pearce (33) providing a sound start from which Joe Cranch (70) and later Sam Pittman (26) were able to guide South Wilts to 243-8.
Left-armer Marc Burton, who finished with 5-28, removed both Havant openers, including former Minor Counties run machine Steve Dean.
Only Simon Loat (22) and Gareth Ransley (29) made any real impact as Burton, Paul Draper (3-11) and Pearce (2-22) dismissed the visitors for 136.
