JUBILANT Steve Claridge lauded his Salisbury FC charges for their "incredibly good performance" in their Wessex Premier derby with Andover Town.

Top finishes from Thomas Whelan and Callum Brockway gave the Whites their first points of the season, and a second clean sheet.

Talking to JournalSport after the 2-0 victory, the boss shared his delight of ending the two-match barren spell.

"We came here and laid down a marker from the start," he said.

"If I was Andover’s manager, I’d be thinking we would do well to stay in this game.”

“It looked like it would be another case of Brockenhurst and Whitchurch but luckily we got the goals.

We had a little bit of luck but then we have created quite a lot ourselves.

"I was beginning to think I was cursed. After the opening quarter in which we didn’t score, I’m thinking I'm absolutely jinxed."

"We had to win this game, if we didn’t we would be eight points behind Andover, which at this stage of the season is a lot of points.

"It wasn’t a good performance, it was an incredibly good performance."

Whites hope to keep their winning run going tomorrow night when Lymington visit (7.45pm).

Claridge could be facing a selection dilemma against The Linnets, who head to south Wiltshire on the back of two straight league away wins, as instrumental players come available.

Ashley Jarvis – back from a three match suspension – and Callum Hart returns while new signings Robbie Matthews and Eddie Perrett are eligible.

Claridge continued: "We’ve had players injured so I’ve got a really lovely problem. Hopefully people will come back after a performance like that, we’ll get another 809 people, which we should because those lads deserve it."
