SOUTH Wilts are one win away from a fourth successive ECB Southern Electric Premier League title after gaining a narrow 11-run win, this time at Bashley.

Tom Morton’s charges are 31 points ahead of second-placed Havant and a win on Saturday against joint bottom-placed Burridge, or the week after against struggling Alton, will seal the title.

Skipper Morton was elated with the tense win, saying“another great team effort. It wasn’t easy out there, it wasn’t a typical Bashley wicket, but we got there in the end.”

Reinstating their position, the skipper emphasised: “Anyone who thinks we are over the line and have won the league is mistaken. Burridge and Alton together with last week’s opponents Sarisbury are battling for their lives and they need the points as much as we do, but for different reasons. I’m confident we can win but I’m taking nothing for granted.”

South Wilts seconds will be crowned Southern Electric Premier Division 3 champions if they beat relegated Totton & Eling II at Southern Gardens on Saturday (12.30pm).

They need 15 points to be assured of the title, which would end three seasons of finishing third, after knocking Waterlooville out of the promotion race with an emphatic 135-run win at Bemerton.

South Wilts progressed to 93-3 (Will Wade 34) before Joe Cranch broke out, hitting two sixes and nine fours in a fiery 91 which effectively decided the match.

The Pittman brothers Rob (34) and Sam (30 not out) pitched in as SW raced to 240-7 (Max Goddard 4-46).

The Ville suffered a fourth defeat in five matches as they stumbled to 105 all out, Dom Webb (3-27) and Paul Draper (3-12) doing the damage.

South Wilts thirds suffered defeat at the hands of promoted Hobos as they were all out in a 60-run defeat.

South Wilts fourths were facing bottom-placed Fawley thirds, who had lost all 13 games so far this season and had only ten men.

And they came fighting through, Luke Hansford hitting his second successive century as he struck 154 not out off 72 balls for a comfortable win.
