STEVE Claridge says he wants more from his players despite hammering Bournemouth Poppies 9-1 on Tuesday night.

The Salisbury FC head coach described it as a “fantastic result” but believes his charges have yet to showcase their full potential.

Speaking to JournalSport, he said: “It could have been better, I don’t know.

“I still think there’s better than what we saw out there. We didn’t play as well as we did against Andover.

“I keep saying to them; in these games you have to get the tempo and play at your pace and take your opportunities and sometimes you have to make the game yourself.”

“There were lots and lots of positives about the game and it was a good result. But there’s still certain things we need to do better.”

The Whites made it three wins in a row in their biggest win of the campaign to make amends for a slow start.

The opening two games in which they drew and lost at home to Whitchurch has left Claridge’s men playing catch up.

He added: “We’ve dropped more points at this stage than I’d have liked

– so we are still playing catch-up.

“We’ve proved we can be competitive.

“We were fine. I might be a perfectionist but there are certain things that we can do better and they know that.

“It looks like a big scoreline and it is a big scoreline but there are certain things that need to be improved

upon.

"I’m not the merchant of doom, and I’m not constantly moaning, I understand that it’s a fantastic result for everyone involved but still think there’s more to come.”
