A CROP of runners from City of Salisbury tackled the breezy Solent conditions at the Gosport half marathon in Hampshire road race league’s fourth fixture of the season.

Steve Auton was pick of the bunch, his time of 1hour 27min 05sec improving his previous best at the distance by a useful margin and leading off the club’s men’s A team.

Next was Kevin Daniels who also claimed a personal best with 1.29.38, some four minutes better than he has gone before. Then came Mike White, improving by three minutes to stop the clock at exactly 1.33.00 and the team was completed by Nick Willetts, steadily returning to form with 1.35.37.

Jo-Anne Gready was fastest of the women, not yet back to her best but still recording a promising 1.37.36. She was followed by Liz Roberts, whose 1.49.48 was just a minute from her previous best, and Melenie Murphy completed the club team with 1.58.52.

Other Salisbury finishers were Craig Murphy with 1.48.17, veteran Hilary Webber 2.04.30 and Jay Friedlander, who earned the last of the day’s pb’s in 2.10.28.

Further along the coast at the Brighton 10k, Alex Mundell showed she is still very much in-form with a personal best of 39min 41sec. That time took her under 40 minutes for the first time and Freya Espir in her debut at the distance ran a very respectable 45.02.
