SALISBURY RFC shifted two places in South West 1 (East) into second after heaping more misery on lowly High Wycombe.

Dan Jeffries’ Green and White army make light work of the rigorous conditions at Kingsmead Road with a 42-6 victory.

Four minutes was all it took for the visitors to unlock the hosts’ defence, Rob Best and Liam Gilbert combining to send Josh Green over for a try.

Superb work from Rob Larcombe and Lane, backed up by drives from the industrious Best and Jamie Miller were rewarded when Ollie Bowden cheekily dummied the last defender to step over untouched.

Worse was to come for the hosts as Richard West burrowed over. Jamie Miller barrelled over leaving a trail of punch-drunk defenders in his wake for the final score of the half.

Tom Lane kicked all four conversions in imperious fashion. The hosts could muster just two penalties in response and the sides turned around with Salisbury 6-28 to the good.

The second half saw chances squandered as both sides struggled with the greasy ball and it was 20 minutes before the visitors scored again. Gilbert gathered a line out and set up a driving maul, joined by the entire Salisbury back line and marshalled through to score. Jack Martin then scored the final try finishing off a good move and diving over.

Lane maintained his 100 per cent kicking record, adding two more conversions to secure a fourth straight win for the promotion-chasers, now unbeaten in their last six and are a mere three points behind leaders Towcestrians; the two rubbing shoulders at the turn of the new year.

Before then, Salisbury host rock-bottom Swanage and Wareham at Castle Road on Saturday.
