SALISBURY Hockey Ladies took the double-header weekend in their stride.

They saw-off a fierce battle from Hereford to win 2-1 on Saturday in West Club's Women's Hockey League Premier Division 2A and then thumped Wells 4-1 in the Investec Trophy Cup.

In the league clash with Hereford, who are precariously sitting near the bottom of the league, started well. But Salisbury responded as skipper Vicki Brewis opened the score sheet early on.

The visitors secured their equaliser just before half time, catching Salisbury's defence off-guard after a short corner had been cleared. Both teams worked well in the second half but Salisbury pushed the Hereford defence and Brewis struck a second goal to secure the win and move her side into third place.

The women kept up the pace on Sunday against the Somerset outfit.

Salisbury came from behind early on to lead at the break following goals from Kerry Jackson, Clara Richmond and Lily Jackson.

Miranda MacTaggart went on a mazy run for her side's second to finish the job at 4-1 and book a place in the third round of the cup.
