THREE City of Salisbury young athletes featured in the top ranks at Wiltshire schools’ cross-country championships near Chippenham where they shared the medal placings.

Abigail Burn continued her run of success, winning the junior girls’ event, Rose Warren almost matched her when taking the silver in the minor girls’ race and Oliver Philips took the bronze in the minor boys’ event. Salisbury won the team award in both of the minor groups.

On the indoor track at Cardiff Metropolitan University, Jay Domoney made a promising start in his under-20 age group debut at 800metres, clocking a personal best 2min 0.5sec to take third place in the South West standings.

Jack Paget also opened his competition account, crossing the line in 7.65sec in the 60m sprint and putting the shot 11.74metres.

At Romsey's annual five-mile road race, several Salisbury athletes came away from the fast and flat course with good personal bests, Mike Brewster recording 28.17, Nick Hudson 34.59 and Liz Roberts 38.26. Other finishers were Andy Robbins with 41.05 and Ali Theobald 49.29.

Finally in the Slaughterford multi-terrain 9mile race, Ian Shelley finished in the top 20 among more than 300 finishers with a strong run of 64min 41sec.
