SALISBURY Ladies Hockey firsts continued their red-hot form after wrecking leaders Newent's undefeated record with a 3-1 victory.

Lisa Lockett, Anika Drage and Anji Whittamore coasted the visitors into a three-nil lead before the hosts grabbed a consolation late on.

Salisbury's win - their third on the trot - consolidated third spot as they continue their bid for promotion from West Club's Premier Division 2A.

A positive, fighting spirit from the start saw the Ladies dominate the first half with an excellent display.

Drage, who broke from midfield, was wiped out by the Newent keeper at the top of the D.

No penalty flick was rewarded just a short corner, which the visitors made the most of.

Lockett picked up the ball and smashed into the corner.

A second came not long after from another short corner routine. A Josie Steinson strike across the D was collected by Drage, whose hard hit went straight past the Newent keeper into the bottom corner.

Defender Whittamore picked up a loose ball in own half and dashed up the pitch before hitting an excellent strike into the left hand corner.

Salisbury kept the pressure up but some confusion in their D rewarded a short against them and Newent executed it perfectly.

Elsewhere, the seconds, thirds and fifths lost to Bournemouth, Swindon and Weymouth seconds, respectively, while the fourths drew 2-2 with Blandford and Sturminster Newton.
