CITY of Salisbury’s Jake Ness made his first marks on the US athletics scene when he took two bronze medals in the annual collegiate indoor relays at Montana.

Running for Weber State University where he is on an athletics-based scholarship, the 18 year-old was selected for the 4x400m and a medley relay contested over 1200, 400, 800 and 1600m and he helped his college team to third spot in both.

He left Salisbury earlier this year to pursue his athletics ambitions and now, amid top competition, has started to find the form that won him national recognition as a junior in the UK. His outdoor racing season starts on Friday, March 18

Also training hard but for next month’s London marathon, Aaron Wilson put in a good performance at the Wokingham half marathon and with a time of 75min 21sec clipped two minutes off his previous best to show that he too is hitting real form.

In the Terminator 12mile multi terrain event that takes in the climb of the White Horse hill at Pewsey, David Osment finished in 1hour 53min 13sec; Nick Hudson clocked 79.12 at the Bournemouth 10mile; and Ali Theobald was fourth in her age group at the Bath Two Tunnels 10k where she was timed at 59.17.
