CITY of Salisbury roadrunners enjoyed a speed bonanza at the London marathon on a day Kenyan winner Eliud Kipchoge ran the second fastest marathon time in history.

The club’s Aaron Wilson produced peak performance to shatter his personal best for 26 miles.

The marathon specialist pounded the capital’s streets to good effect, knocking a whole ten minutes off his previous best set in Chicago to stop the clock at an excellent 2hours 36min 55sec.

Stuart Holloway was next of the club’s ten finishers, close to his old form with a solid 2.41.19.

Then came veteran Mike Brewster with a superb 2.50.36, clipping seven minutes off his best, and another sub three hour run came from Reece Ingram whose 2.56.21 defied recent injury.

Phil Smith reduced his best by six minutes to a good 3.03.29, and then came the club’s biggest improver on the day, Jo-Anne Gready going 30 minutes better than previously with an inspired 3.20.15.

Close on her heels was triathlete Ruth Thom in 3.21.53, then came Steve Auton in 3.23.14. Chrissy Gorham did well to get close to her best with 3.54.07 and Jeremy Beavan completed the group in 4.17.07.

At the Southampton half marathon, Lee Syrett was quickest of the Salisbury squad with a promising 1hour 28min 2sec, closely followed by Ian Lawrence with a pb 1.29.47. Next were Darren Clissold 1.40.26, Phil Perry 1.41.32 pb, Mel Holloway 1.50, Liz Roberts 1.50.03 and Andy Robbins 2.04.40.

In the Figsbury Challenge charity race at Winterbourne Earls, Salisbury’s Ben Stott was clear winner with 16min 33sec and he was followed by Fabrice Webb 17.29 for fourth place, Louise Webb for first female, and Steven Mitchell 20.26.
