THERE was heartbreak for Ellingham and Ringwood after missing out on winning the Hampshire Plate.

Es' hopes of silverware were dashed following a closely-fought 29-20 defeat to holders Fareham Heathens.

Both sides exchanged penalties in the first half, before the Heathens scored a try in the last play of the half to give them an 8-3 lead at the break.

The first 15 minutes of the second half saw the Heathens score three converted tries to open up a 29-3 lead and the game looked over, but Ellingham had other ideas. They were able to dominate the last 20 minutes of the game and their young wing three quarter, Jack Galton, scored two good tries, one of which was converted. Charlie Cockram then added a further try to close the gap to 20-29, but time ran out and Heathen were able to retain the trophy.
