HAMPSHIRE LEAGUE – COUNTY DIVISIONS

JIM Edwards guided Ellingham CC to an 82-run victory in County Division 1 at the expense of New Milton seconds.

Johnny Childs (32) gave Edwards (70) good support in a third wicket stand of 111 with Edwards hitting four consecutive sixes. The momentum was maintained by Mark Burrett (41) and Chris Batten (44 no) as the visitors posted 225-9.

Ellingham’s opening attack of skipper Henry Shutler (1-22) and Ali Redfern (2-24) kept the home side in check and only their captain Ashley Collinson (25) showed any form as wickets tumbled to Shaun Leadbetter (3-31) and Tom Faulkner (3-18).

Only a last wicket stand of 35 lifted New Milton to a more respectable 143 when they were all out in the 45th over.

Woodgreen recorded one of their lowest scores in recent years when they were shot out for just 41 when they entertained Parley in County Division 3 West.

Opener Jack Rowett (73) was supported by Rosham Enbamgam (65) as Parley amassed 260-5 with Mark Penny (2-67) and Richard White (2-40) the main wicket takers.

Six batsmen were out without scoring as Woodgreen’s innings lasted for just 12.4 overs and included 23 extras as Oli Green (7-12) caused the most damage alongside Rowett (3-14).

Verwood were never really in contention when they lost to Winton by six wickets in Country Division 4 West at the Kings George V Playing Fields.

Only an unbeaten 48 from number seven Oliver Arnold enabled Verwood to reach 148-9 with Harry Seal (4-28) the pick of the attack and then Seal (38) and Williams (32) spearheaded the Winton reply as they won in 29 overs, with Arnold taking 2-31.

When CBBEA lost their first two wickets for three runs, Burley must have thought that there were on their way to a home victory. Craig McLean had other ideas and he hit 104 and, with support from Steve Light (40), took the visitors to 210-6 with Mike Moorman

(3-41) and Jonathan Beck (2-32) the most successful bowlers.

After losing a wicket in the first over, Burley made a poor response especially against Duncan Burt (5-26) and only Beck (33) and Steve Doick (20), who put on 40, showed any resistance as they were bundled out for 98 in the 29th over.

Andy Donoghue (88) led the Ellingham 2nds batting supported by Andy Jones (29) and they finished on 215-7 at Picket Post. This was not enough to stop Fawley 2nds from winning by two wickets in the penultimate over, Alex Turner taking 2-40.
