TWO dedicated sportsmen from City of Salisbury were recognised for their commitment at the 2016 Wiltshire Athletics' Awards.

The event at Doric Park in Trowbridge, which was sponsored by Wiltshire and Swindon Sport (WASP), recognised the best athletes, coaches and volunteers in the county.

Just shy of 100 nominations were received and part of the 11 category winners were Dave Amey and Alan Munro.

The Official of the year award went to Amey, with Jacqui Sykes from Marlborough & District Junior AC and last year’s winner Alan Brown from Swindon Harriers being the runners up.

And Munro was named joint coach of the year with Swindon Harriers' Bryan Clinton and Rich Ayling of Avon Valley Runners.

Wiltshire Athletic Association chairman Darren Wrintmore, who presented the awards, said: "The event showed that athletics is thriving well in Wiltshire and that we are producing a good number of athletes that are able to hold their own on a regional, national and for some an international level. Behind these athletes is a good community of coaches, officials and volunteers enabling the sport to progress in the county.

"The category winners will be put forward by Wiltshire Athletic Association to the England Athletics awards that take place later in the year and also to the Wiltshire Sports Awards that take place in October."
