SOUTH Wilts and Sunday afternoon ECB Royal London club championship cup cricket clearly don’t go hand-in-hand.
After reaching the group final without playing a single game – scheduled opponents Fawley and Lymington both conceding early round ties – South Wilts are still no further forward in the competition.
This time it was the weather that put paid to their efforts – the zone final at Havant being washed out by heavy rain early in the evening session.
South Wilts will have been fairly pleased with the way things went too.
A stunning four-wicket spell by Matt Burton (4-22) and economical seam from Jack Mynott (1-19) had Havant reeling at 41-5.
They batted their way out of trouble through teenager Harry Gadd (96) and Richard Hindley (61) to post 217-5 off 45 overs.
Sam Pittman smacked three fours as South Wilts made 21 without loss before rain brought a premature end to proceedings.
The teams will replay at Havant Park on Sunday (1pm).
