Hampshire League – Regional Division 1 West

AFTER a run of 13 consecutive matches without a win in this season and last, Godshill have at last turned the page.

And it was a calculated innings from their skipper Alan Cousins that ensured their convincing 77-run victory when they entertained Cadnam 2nds on Saturday.

After losing an early wicket, Jon Bayliss (42) led the scoring in a second-wicket stand of 64 with Cousins, who then put on 75 with Chris Houghton (53), the captain just missing out on a well-deserved half century as he was caught behind for 49.

Godshill posted 203-8 with Simon Whitehorn taking 5-29 for the visitors who were soon in trouble against Jason Cooper (4-30) and Matt Robb (3-20) and, with only James Walter (38) in form, they were restricted to 126-9.

Breamore’s total of 146-9 against Parley 3rds at the Marsh contained 34 extras that included 23 wides with Shaun Marlow (32) and his son Tom (23) the main scorers.

Parley were always struggling against Paul Veit (2-15), Tom Marlow (2-24) and Phil Lacey (2-26) and were bowled out for 103.

Damerham were very short of players for their away match with Winton 2nds and, after a shaky start at 12-3, they were rolled over for 87 in the 32nd over with only David Colbourne (22) and James Vincent (20) showing any resistance, and it took Winton 26 overs to win by eight wickets.

Hyde managed only 91 against Bournemouth 4ths at Chapel Gate and the total was boosted by 29 extras – with Chris Shutler (16) and his father Mike (15) the only players in double figures.

Bournemouth were made to work hard for their runs as wickets fell to Ben Daniels (2-26), Ned Thomas (2-25) and Lewis Bull (2-24) but they eventually won by three wickets in the 39th over.

There are big games happening in the division this weekend. Leaders Breamore, at fifth-placed Bransgore, will try to shake off second-placed Bournemouth, who are at Hythe and Dibden.
