WHITSBURY Manor Stud Bibury Cup Day at Salisbury on Wednesday attracted a crowd of just under 2,500 on an overcast but warm day.

Her Majesty's Mainstream forfeited any chance of winning the feature race when planting in the starting stalls, conceding six lengths to the rest of the field. Despite Ryan Moore's best efforts to coax his mount into contention, Mainstream could only finish fourth behind the outsider of the field, Marmajuke Bay, who came with a rattling run inside the final furlong to win at 10/1 for Lambourn trainer Mark Usher and jockey Steve Drowne.

The preceding New Forest Farm Machinery/John Deere Auction Stakes was not without drama too as first past the post, Groupie, had to survive a lengthy stewards' enquiry before being confirmed the winner of the Conditions event. The odds-on favourite, Mistime, was subject to some interference inside the final furlong and may well have finished closer to the Richard Hannon trained filly if avoiding this. Take nothing away from the winner though, Groupie showed a determined attitude and ran on well to win her second race in three starts.

The big-priced winning duo of Jackhammer and Hatsaway landed the opening Whitsbury Manor Stud EBF Stallions Blagrave Maiden and the H S Lester Memorial Handicap respectively, while Silverrica justified favouritism in the INSPIRE Foundation Veterans' Handicap.

The high quality Molson Coors Handicap, a Class 2 race, had been dominated in previous running's by older horses. Marcus Tregoning's, Storm Ahead at 10/1, was the first three-year-old to win for at least 20 years. Just as the sun started to shine, the day was rounded off with victory for Ryan Moore and William Haggas, who combined with the odds-on Wave Reviews to take the Pam Robertshaw Birthday Celebration EBF Stallions Maiden from Gibbs Hill; the pair pulling well clear of the field.

Salisbury next race on Saturday, July 9 when it hosts the ever popular Ladies' Evening. Bibury Enclosure tickets are expected to sell out early next week but there is currently good availability elsewhere.
