Hampshire League – County Divisions

DESPITE games being called off all around them, Burley managed to play their County Division 4 West match with Suttoners 2nds and they won by 124 runs thanks to half-centuries from Keiran Hudson and captain Alec Moorman, writes Simon Rowley.

The start was delayed so it was decided to play a 33-overs-a-side contest – but soon Burley had both openers back in the pavilion with just 11 runs on the board.

Jonathan Beck (20) was the next man out at 56 but that was the last wicket to fall as Hudson and Moorman shared in an unbeaten fourth-wicket stand of 127 as the home side posted a challenging 183-3 from their 33 overs with only Kyle Onions (2-29) making an impression.

Twelve fours were included in Hudson’s unbeaten 80 whilst Moorman struck 11 fours in his 64 not out.

It was not long before struggling Suttoners were reduced to 22-8 and then 39-9 by Wayne Tucker (4-22) and Jim Burry (3-10) and only Graham Twigg (18) resisted before the last man was run out with the score on 59 in the 25th over.

Burley, with five victories and two defeats, have moved up to fifth in the table, three above Verwood who have won four and lost two after their game with CBBEA at Winton Oval was abandoned when rain intervened just before the start.

Ellingham 2nds have won just one of their six matches played but their fixture with Whiteparish at Picket Post was cancelled the previous evening as their pitch was very wet.

Out of the 60 matches due to be played in all county divisions, only 21 reached a conclusion as the continuing unsettled weather decimated the Hampshire League programme for the second week running.
