HIGHPOST Golf Club's Mark Searle claimed his first win in the West.

The 34-year-old, who joined the PGA after a modest touring career, banked his largest ever prize winning total of £869 after a fine display at the Taunton and Pickeridge pro-am.

He laid the foundations for victory by hitting four-under-par 31 on the front nine.

That was followed with bogeys at the tenth and 11th. But further gains at the 13th and 16th restored his momentum on a breezy, overcast day to seal his first win since the Total Triumph title at nearby Oake Manor in May.

He was joined on Friday at the top by PGA champion Paul Hendriksen (Ivybridge), an old adversary from their amateur county days.
