BIG-HITTING Jerry Milward smashed a record 16 sixes and 17 fours in an unbeaten double century as Verwood seconds trounced Wilton by 180 runs in Regional Division 3 West at Castle Meadows.

After early wickets fell, Milward took control of the Wilton attack and he shared in a third wicket stand of 174 with Robbie Armstrong (48) and then added 115 unbeaten for the eighth wicket with Nick Butler (35 no) as the visitors notched up 322-7 with Milward contributing 207 not out.

Shell-shocked Wilton showed little fight and they were removed for 142 with Ed Hungerford (4-4) and Archie Musslewhite (2-5) mopping up the tail.

Verwood skipper Dan Thompson, who missed the match and the entertainment, thought that this number of runs scored by one batsman in boundaries, 164 made up of 96 in sixes and 68 in fours, is certainly a club, if not a league record.
