SALISBURY Racecourse hosted its final twilight meeting of the season on Friday.

Harry Dunlop's Viking Hoard got the seven-card fixture underway, springing a 16/1 upset under Sam Hitchcott in the Booker Wholesale Median Auction.

In the Bathwick Car & Van Hire Nursery Handicap, David Evans' Fastnet Spin should have provided champion jockey chasing Jim Crowley with a winner. But, due to adverse weather conditions delaying his arrival at the Netherhampton Road course, John Egan stepped in for the ride, and landed a win.

Crowley made up for lost time later on the card, landing both feature races in a consecutive double.

The first, Shamsaya, came in the EBF Stallions Breeding Winners Fillies' Nursery Handicap for Newmarket trainer Simon Crisford who had earlier landed a black type double at Doncaster.

Some 30 minutes later, Crowley was back in the winners' circle as last season's Betfred City Bowl hero Fun Mac got back to winning ways in imperious fashion for Hughie Morrison. The 13/8 red-hot favourite travelled well throughout and took up the running over a furlong from home, staying on strongly to send Crowley ahead in his battle with Silvestre De Sousa for the jockey's championship while landing the feature Bathwick Tyres 'Persian Punch' Conditions Stakes.

Fleeting Dream kept up William Haggas' remarkable hot streak with a cosy victory in Division 2 of the Bathwick Tyres Handicap.

Burguillos rounded off the card with a hardy victory in the closing EBF Stallions Mercedes-Benz Of Salisbury Maiden for Alan King and apprentice Louis Steward.

Salisbury only have two fixtures remaining, racing again on Wednesday, September 28 (2.20pm).
