ALTHOUGH the Avon remains low and clear and fishing conditions are difficult, the London AA fishery at Britford has produced some quality roach and barbel during the last week.

Regular, Charlie Kemmett, had a break from specimen roach fishing to go for barbel and over a period of a few days banked quite a few. Top best three weighed-in at 11lb 8oz, 9lb and 7lb 8oz and all came from the main carrier falling for luncheon meat bait. He also landed a 13lb 9oz carp on a boilie.

Porton angler, Mark Walsh, caught one of his best ever roach when fishing the main carrier, landing one weighing exactly 2lb. The old river stretch and the navigation channel are proving more difficult because of the low and clear conditions but some float anglers have caught the odd chub, some grayling and a few dace.

Lake anglers are enjoying good sport with all local fisheries reporting plenty of anglers and plenty of fish. At Witherington Farm Fishery, Cottage Lake is fishing well with match weights up to 80lb. Some big carp have been caught from Barnmoor Lake during last week with several 20lb-plus coming to the nets with the best at 27lb. One angler had three in the mid-twenty weight range in one session. Pleasure anglers will have the chance to fish Sellwood Lake again this weekend after it has been rested for a week or so.

Salisbury Angling Club entertained Test Valley AC and Eastleigh AC in an inter-club match at Witherington Farm on Sunday with the match using both the Outer and Inner Snake lakes. There was a big turn-out of 48 anglers for the competition which saw top three places all go to Eastleigh.

Mick Aldiss was the winner with 60lb 12oz, Pete Newman was second with 50lb and Rich Kijko was third with 37lb.

Skimmers, tench, carp and silver fish are being caught at other fisheries in the Salisbury area with good sport to be had at Waldens Farm, Watergate Farm and Dandy's Ford Lane.
