LIVELY Eddie Perrett is relishing a return to attack – and he hopes his two goals in Saturday’s FA Trophy victory over Hereford will aid his cause.

The striker-turned-wingback popped up with silky finishes in the blockbuster 4-3 preliminary round win.

His goals arrived in the second period after enduring a tricky opening 45 minutes in defence. And that nearly saw him substituted with boss Steve Claridge urging fellow defender George Colson to warm-up.

“At half-time I got my head together,” the 26-year-old told JournalSport.

“First half wasn’t the best I’ve done, and second half I got my head down, did what I had to do and chances popped up and I managed to put them away.

“I told the gaffer in training I can do that but he sees me as a full back. But it goes to show out there I can put the ball in the back of the net.

“I’m happy wherever he puts me, but I do see myself further forward. I notched two good goals and we’ll go from there.”

Whites’ reward is a first round tie at home to Chippenham Town.

The Bluebirds, who are flying high at the top end of Southern Premier, visit the Ray Mac on Saturday, October 29.

And Perrett, an engineer at Sarum Refrigeration, has tipped Whites to have a good run in the competition.

“Chippenham is a winnable game,” he added. “We will give it a good go. The players we’ve got here makes us a unit now. I believe, on our day, we could beat anyone.

“Personally, it is a little bit different to the Vase because we are playing teams in leagues above us now. We aren’t the top league, like we were in the Vase.”
