A FOOTBALLING legend is being remembered by his nephew at a running race.

Lee Syrett is competing in the Bath Half Marathon on Sunday, March 12 in memory of ex-footballer David Syrett, who died of a brain tumour last July, aged 60.

Ahead of the 13-mile race, Lee is raising money for The Brain Tumour Charity, which is at the forefront of the fight to defeat brain tumours, funds pioneering research and provides support for those affected.

So far, he's raised £281 of the £500 target.

The idea is part of Lee's regime to run an annual race in honour of his uncle, who played for the likes of Swindon Town, Mansfield Town, Walsall, Peterborough United, Northampton Town and hometown club Salisbury City.

"I will be doing one charity event a year in his honour and, after the success of raising over one £1,000 last year, I have secured a charity place to run the Vitality Bath Half Marathon," explained Lee, who is a regular at Salisbury's ever-growing parkrun.

"This is a special event as David had been to support his eldest daughter Kerry at the Bath Half Marathon before, so seemed the perfect event.

"The thanks I received from the Brain Tumour Charity, along with the support from friends and family to achieve such a substantial amount for this charity so close to my heart, was a very touching moment."
