SWINDON Supermarine boss Dave Webb reckons Salisbury are the best side in the league.

Webb reached the conclusion after Whites inflicted a 6-1 hammering on his side in Saturday's Wiltshire derby at the Webbs Wood Stadium.

Supermarine had led after 11 minutes through Brad Hooper's strike but the visitors hit back through loanee Brian Dutton before Justin Bennett put their noses in front at half time.

Salisbury ran riot after the break with four goals from Tom Whelan, Taurean Roberts and Tommy Wright's brace to complete the rout.

The three points cemented Whites' position (fifth) in the play-off places.

But despite Steve Claridge's men being 24 points behind runaway leaders Hereford, Webb says Salisbury are currently the best side in the Southern League Division One South and West.

“It was a very difficult day for us and I knew it was going to be. Salisbury are on a fantastic run and have got quality players all through the side and they showed their class,” he told the Swindon Advertiser.

“They showed that if you are a non-league player and you train twice a week and turn up on a Saturday and play, that’s the level you have got to try to achieve if you are going to be successful.

“They are in the play-offs and will undoubtedly be there at the end of the season. If they continue to play like that, I wouldn’t want to be another side in the top five when the play-offs come around and have to play them because, for me, they are the best side.

“Hereford were very good but Salisbury were as good, if not slightly better.

“We weren’t at the level that it takes to compete with them and that’s the one thing my players have to take from the game."
