JUSTIN Bennett emulated Sam Wilson's all-time scoring record as five-star Salisbury ran riot over Larkhall Athletic to retain fourth position in Southern League Division One South and West.

Goals from Lewis Benson, Tom Whelan, Claudio Herbert, Bennett and Tommy Wright sealed a 5-0 thumping for Steve Claridge's men and an eighth successive league win.

Whites had to remain patient for the opener, which arrived on the stroke of half time. Following a neat interchange of passes, Eddie Perrett set-up workhorse Benson who took one touch before unleashing a piledriver, some 25 yards from goal, into the top corner.

Benson then turned assist on 62 minutes when his through ball carved open the Larkhall defence and found Whelan, whose first touch allowed him to side-foot past the keeper.

Seven minutes later, a third arrived after Herbert stabbed home George Colson's dangerous cross on the right.

Herbert was in the thick of things again, this time making Bennett's 40th goal in all competitions as he matches last season's top scorer Wilson - six weeks before the campaign reaches a climax.

Bennett teed up fellow striking partner Wright who got in on the act deep into stoppage time with a drilled finish.

With third-placed Tiverton Town slipping up at Shortwood United, Whites have reduced the gap to four points, knowing four points from their two games in hand will be enough to leapfrog them.

Their first additional game is tomorrow night when they welcome Winchester City in the Cathedral Derby (7.45pm).
