ROSS Bentall smashed a quickfire brace as Downton FC ended their four-match losing streak by putting relegation-threatened East Cowes Victoria to the sword with a 5-0 victory at Wick Lane.

Bentall started the drubbing in Sydenhams Division One when his long-range effort floated into the net.

The winger then netted his second goal at the back post following a fine move.

And the points were all wrapped up before the break as Ashley Thomas volleyed an unstoppable strike into the bottom corner.

In the second half, Tom Aldridge added a fourth after finishing after great work from Shaun Prentice on the right.

The fifth and final goal came from the experienced assistant player/manager Ben Smith, a great ball in to the box was headed into the top right corner.

“Wow, what a week. To go from the low at Fleet on Tuesday to this just shows how inconsistent our season has been, boss Rae Hughes told JournalSport.

“I asked for a reaction and that is what I got. Great team performance. We have a tough run now though playing two of the top three teams, but we will go into it confident after this win.”
