THIS year’s annual Salisbury Area Sports saw South Wilts pupil Molly Hole pick up the Pam Swienton award for best overall athlete.

Molly, who is a member of City of Salisbury athletics club, achieved new records in the high jump and shot put, jumping an impressive 1.66m and throwing a magnificent 11.74m.

This was the events 86th year and organisers said it was on of the best, athletes will now go on to represent Salisbury District at the County Championships in Swindon.

Eleven schools from around Salisbury competed including: Stonehenge, Trafalgar, Avon Valley, St Josephs, St Edmunds, Sarum Academy, Bishops Wordsworths, South Wilts, Wyvern, Leehurst Swan and Godolphin.

Other notable performances were from Ottalie Knight who set new records in the triple jump and javelin throwing a massive 40.63m.

Anna Merritt also recorded a new record in the junior girl’s category, throwing 32.36m in the discus and Lucy Matthews ran the hurdles in a time of 11.3 seconds.

All of the records that were broken were of a national standard, as well as 14 athletes achieving county standards.
