HAVE you been following the Women’s World Cup?

Salisbury Rugby Club has a growing number of female followers - not only supporters but players too.

On a Sunday morning, up to 25 girls gather at Hudson’s Field to train with experienced coach Geoff Wilman and the Girls Team.

As a natural progression, the club is looking to secure more recruits for its Women’s Team.

The team has secured places at county level since forming less than a year ago, but it needs more players - even those who haven’t played for years, or never played at all.

Come and meet with the team at a have-a-go session as part of the InnerWarrior campaign this weekend.

The campaign aims to get more women and girls interested in rugby and unleash their inner warriors, and a basic training session, fun and games will take place on the day.

Team member Olga, a mother of young twins, has been playing with the club since January.

She said: “This has allowed me to have my own time, unwind, giggle and also get fitter.”

Gemma, who also started in January, has managed to secure a place at County Level.

“Playing rugby has really given me more personal confidence, I have got fit and I am learning new skills every session,” Gemma said.

“We really want to secure more members at Salisbury Rugby Club.

“I would recommend you just come and see us.”

Neither Olga nor Gemma had ever touched a rugby ball before joining the team.

The team is hoping to secure some friendly matches in the new year, and is working with other local clubs to start a group training circuit.

Members will be able to play at different grounds, learn new skills and understand what a great game rugby can be.

The InnerWarrior campaign will run on Sunday, September 3, at noon at Salisbury Rugby Club.
