RICHARD Pearce scored his maiden century for Dinton as they made it six wins out of six with a 172 run victory at Ashford Hill last Saturday.

The Hampshire League Regional Two North West leaders won the toss and decided to bat.

Although Ashford stuck early in the fifth over Barry Monger dismissing Tom Patrick for two this would be their last success for a while, as Richard Pearce joined Ben Coombes as the pair set about building a match defining total.

50 was brought up in the 12th over the pair powered past the 100 mark in the 20th and then just five overs later the 150 was pasted.

It was all one-way traffic as Ashford Hill were unable to stop the run glut even when the boundaries dried up with most fielders set back singles were taken at will.

Pearce was first to bring up his century, Coombes did likewise a while later his 11th. With joints waning Pearce retired himself on 108 this brought to an end a 203 run partnership for the second wicket the highest in Dinton’s history for that wicket.

Coombes however kept going finally being caught for 148 an innings that contained 11 sixes possible another record.

Andy Nuttall (23 not out) and John Pearce (16 not out) took their side past the 300 mark. Dinton finishing on 310-3 after their 40 overs.

With not much realistic hope of chasing down their mammoth target the host started slowly and seemed content to get to 50 and then click through the 25’s picking up points as they went.

James Nuttall took the first wicket with the score on 29 but from here Dinton found it difficult to make the brake thought chances were offered some hard some not quite so hard but none were taken.

Although Dinton throw everything at them Ashford Hill finished their allotted 40 overs on 138-5 with Dinton frustrated that they were unable to drive home their advantage and leave with maximum points.

But with Paultons also dropping three points in their victory the top of the table remains the same.

Next week the aforementioned second placed Paultons travel to Dinton.

With both team undefeated the result of this game could go a long way to dictating the outcome of the season
