SALISBURY City’s players began pre-season training on Monday with a good turnout, despite continuing uncertainty over the club’s takeover.
They were without Jon Bass though, who announced his retirement to concentrate fully on his job as a chartered surveyor.
The 33-year-old defender played for Birmingham City, Carlisle United, Gillingham, Hartlepool United and Bristol Rovers before he joined the Whites in 2006, at the start of their promotion season from the Conference South.
“He was a quality player and is a quality person,” said manager Nick Holmes.
“We will be sad to lose him, but we understand that he wanted to focus on his job.”
The club have announced an open day for Saturday, July 25, when fans will be able to watch a training session. Assistant manager Tommy Widdrington will take the players through their paces at 10.30am, followed by an autograph and photograph session and tours of the ground. Refreshments will be available from 9.45am, and the event ends at midday. Admission is free.
“We are looking to do things a little bit differently and get things moving,” said Holmes. “It will be a good chance for the supporters to see the other side of things.”
