Blankley leaves Whites

Barry Blankley has stepped down as assistant first team manager at Salisbury City.

Blankley joined Nick Holmes’ management team in October 2004 and was part of back-to-back promotions and memorable FA Cup and Trophy runs.

“Barry has let me know he is no longer going to be with us at Salisbury,” said Holmes.

“I understand his feeling that there is no longer a suitable role for him here within the full-time set-up.

“He was with us through some very special times and I’d like to thank him very much for everything he has done for the club.

“We’ve parted on good terms and I’m sure he will quickly get another job in the non-league world and be a success again.”

Before joining Salisbury, Blankley had enjoyed managerial roles at Bashley and AFC Totton and had been player-coach at Weymouth.

The Whites were a part-time operation in the Premier Division of the Ryman League when Blankley, then scouting for Basingstoke Town, agreed to come to Salisbury.

At the time, Holmes, installed as City manager in 2002, was in the process of winding up his business interests in the USA when a hurricane in Florida prevented him from taking up the reins at the Ray Mac at the start of the 2004/05 season.

“He came here to help me out when I was in the States five years ago and he’s been a terrific servant to the club ever since,” said Holmes.

“Like everyone else at the club, I wish him every success in the future and he knows he’ll always be welcome at the Ray Mac."
