Winning start for captain James
NEW South Wilts Cricket Club captain James Hayward enjoyed a winning start to his reign.
His side defeated Bashley (Rydal) on the opening day of their Southern Electric Premier Division One campaign by 65 runs.
South Wilts posted 139 runs - fellow youngster Tom Morton made 33, while Hayward chalked up 32.
However, the Salisbury side then removed the visitors for just 74 - Hayward again playing his part with a four-wicket haul.
He recorded figures of 4-9, while new overseas signing Simon Branston returned an equally stunning 4-13.
South Wilts visit Totton & Eling next week (Saturday, May 10).
Yesterday's other results: Hampshire Academy bt Alton by 207 runs; Havant bt Andover by 165 runs; Hursley Park lost to Bournemouth by nine wickets; St Cross Symondians lost to Totton & Eling by eight wkts.
