SCORING a hundred and fielding in two separate matches, Darren Sargent pictured simply couldn’t keep out of the South Wilts action last weekend.
Fresh from scoring a season’s best 123 for South Wilts’ thirds against local Hampshire League County 3 North rivals Redlynch & Hale on the Academy ground, Sargent raced on to substitute for the first team on the main Bemerton outfield when Steve Riddle was taken to hospital with a dislocated shoulder.
“He came on as sub for about 90 minutes and fielded really well,” said SW skipper James Hayward.
“Directly Lymington had chased down our score, he shook my hand and raced off to re-join his third team colleagues, who were chasing the leather about.”
But Sargent could only watch as Ian Tanner (97) and Glen Willoughby (88) swept Redlynch to 270-6 and a four-wicket win.
“I really enjoyed myself,” Sargeant said. “But it’s not often you play in two losing teams on the same afternoon !”
