SOUTH Wilts will become only the second side to successfully defend the Southern Electric twenty20 Cup if they beat Lymington under the Ageas Bowl floodlights tomorrow night (7pm).

BAT Sports won back-toback finals in 2004 and 2005 – only to be denied a hat-trick when South Wilts themselves beat them by six wickets the following year.

James Hayward, who missed the 20-run semi-final victory over Sarisbury Athletic, returns to South Wilts’ fold tomorrow.

He said: “We had a magnificent evening there last year and want to repeat our success, but Lymington are in good shape, so we’ll have a real match on our hands.”

The probable South Wilts cup final side is: Tom Morton, Tom Pearce, James Hayward, Ryan Burl, Joe Cranch, Rob Pittman, Jake Foley, Sam Pittman, Steve Warner, Jack Richards and Dom Ducellier.

South Wilts’ route to the final: Round 1 Bye Round 2 South Wilts 125-8 (Abel 37, Hayward 36) Hampshire Academy 117-7 (Weatherley 34, Goodwin 29, Alsop 29, Foley 4-14). South Wilts won by eight runs.
